October…National XYZ Month

There are SO many incredibly important awareness themes this month…probably most notably Breast Cancer awareness month. Every single awareness topic is important and critical.

It is also:

💜Pregnancy & Infant Loss awareness month

💚Placent Accreta awareness month

October is now such an interesting, emotional and complex month for me personally. Actually…Fall in general sort of feels like a time of year that hits a lot of trigger topics (September= NICU awareness month, October= Pregnancy & Infant Loss awareness month & Placenta Accreta month, November= prematurity awareness month, December= my survivor anniversary).

And just like there isn’t a word or phrase to really truly describe parents who experience pregnancy or infant loss...I’ve yet to find, in five years now...a word that also successfully describes what it’s like to lose your ability to have children altogether, after a life threatening fight to survive a pregnancy.

Survivor is a good descriptor. But it doesn’t capture it all.

I’ve found the past (almost) 5 years, that while this particular pain and experience is like the ocean...always there, waves crashing at different times + strengths...that HOPE is what keeps me moving forward.

Hope that by sharing, I can be a voice to raise awareness, and more importantly- to be a listening ear or a source of comfort for someone else fighting through the darkness.

I’ll share more about these topics in future blog posts…hoping to raise awareness in the process.

🌱🕯

In Hope & Light,

💜D
